How carousel splitting works

Carousel posts let you tell a longer story than a single Instagram square. The "wide image trick" is: design one panoramic image (e.g. 5400×1080 for 5 square slides, or 5400×1350 for 5 portrait slides), then slice it into N evenly-sized pieces. When uploaded in order as a carousel, they form a continuous wider canvas as you swipe.

Recommended input dimensions

• 5 square slides: 5400 × 1080 (1:1 output)
• 7 square slides: 7560 × 1080
• 10 square slides: 10800 × 1080
• 5 portrait slides: 5400 × 1350 (4:5 output)
• 10 portrait slides: 10800 × 1350

If your image dimensions don't match exactly, the splitter scales each slice to the target dimensions, which may distort edges. For best quality, design at exact multiples of 1080.

Posting tips

• Upload in order — Instagram preserves the order you select slides. Pick from left to right.
• First slide is the hook — it appears in feeds and decides whether people swipe.
• Carousels get re-shown — Instagram re-surfaces carousels to users who didn't swipe past the first slide, giving you a second engagement chance per follower.
• Add captions per slide — even though they're images, your single post caption should refer to "slide 3 →" etc. for clarity.
