The crop rectangle maintains a fixed ratio (1:1, 4:5, 16:9, etc) as you drag. Pick 'Free' to crop to any shape. Aspect presets cover the most common social media sizes.

Does cropping lose quality?

No — cropping just discards pixels outside the box. The kept pixels are bit-identical to the original. Lossy only if you export as JPG with quality below 100%.

No. The image is loaded into a canvas in your browser. The crop happens locally, exports locally.
