The "first 3 lines" rule

LinkedIn truncates the About section at roughly 265 characters with a "see more" link. Those ~265 chars are everything visitors see by default — they decide whether to expand and read the rest. That makes the opening of your About section the most important block on your entire profile.

Hook patterns that work

• Outcome-first — "I help B2B SaaS teams turn churn into retention. Here's how:"
• Curiosity gap — "Most product designers spend 80% of their time on the wrong thing. I learned this the hard way."
• Specific story — "In 2024, I joined a 50-person startup as their first designer. 18 months later, we're a design-led 250-person company. Here's what I learned:"
• Bold claim — "I believe most company values pages are useless. After 5 years of remote work, here's what I write instead:"

What the bottom 2,300 chars should do

If your hook worked and the visitor expanded, the rest of the About should:

• Tell your career story in chronological or thematic chunks
• Drop a few keywords for LinkedIn search (your role, your specialty, the tools you use)
• Include 2-3 specific accomplishments with numbers if possible
• End with a clear CTA — DM you, follow your newsletter, book a call, whatever fits your goal
