Add Page Numbers to PDF

Why this matters

Long PDFs without numbers are hell to reference. Adding numbers afterwards (rather than in the source document) is fast and avoids re-exporting from Word / InDesign / Pages.

Common patterns

• Reports / theses — footer-center, "1, 2, 3" style
• Books / long PDFs — footer-right (odd pages would be left for true book layout, but most digital PDFs ignore this)
• Slide decks exported as PDF — footer-right, "1 of 12" format so the audience knows progress
• Legal documents — header-right "Page 1" format with full word

Skip cover pages

If your PDF starts with a cover or ToC, set "Skip first N pages" so they remain un-numbered. The numbering then begins on the first "real" page. Combine with "Start at" to renumber from any value.

The PDF is parsed and rewritten in your browser via pdf-lib. Nothing is uploaded.
